What is a Testicular Ultrasound?
A private testicular ultrasound, also known as a scrotal ultrasound, is a safe and painless diagnostic imaging test. Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to create pictures of the testicles and the surrounding tissues. This procedure helps the doctor or the surgeon to identify any abnormalities with the testes, such as masses, swellings, or areas of tenderness, which could indicate conditions like testicular torsion, varicoceles, or even cancer.
The ultrasound device, called a transducer, is placed directly on the skin of the scrotum. It sends out sound waves that bounce off the structures within your testicles. These sound waves return to the transducer as echoes and are converted into images that are displayed on a monitor.
The procedure is highly accurate, and unlike X-rays or CT scans, it does not use radiation. It’s a safe and effective method for examining the testicles and their associated structures.
